WHITE NEST #6

commission work for Ephemeral Public Art, Shire of Mornington Peninsula 2026

White Nest #6 is the latest iteration of an ongoing series of "soft architecture" installations constructed entirely from woven white yarn. Commissioned for the Mornington Peninsula Shire, the work was situated at the Rye Community Garden for six weeks from March to April 2026.

At the heart of this series is the creative process itself. The slow, repetitive rhythm of weaving facilitates a profound synchronisation with the site's atmosphere, allowing me to merge with the environment through a meditative passage of time. This "inhale and exhale" of practice transforms the material into a functional community vessel—a space that hosted concerts, yoga, and Tai Chi, fostering shared experiences within a woven sanctuary.

The site itself carries a significant history; it was once home to a shelter known as the "Purple House." After the building was demolished, the local community fought to preserve the land as a green space for everyone. By engaging with this history of resilience and communal care, the installation creates a bridge between the memory of the site and its present life, offering a quiet clearing for reflection and belonging.

「White Nest #6」は、白い毛糸のみを用いて編み上げられた、現在進行形の「ソフト・アーキテクチャー（柔らかな建築）」シリーズの最新作です。2026年3月から4月にかけて、モーニングトン半島のライ・コミュニティガーデンにて6週間にわたり展示されました。このシリーズの醍醐味は何よりもその「制作プロセス」にあります。一編みごとに積み重ねられる静かでゆっくりとした時間は、その場所の空気とシンクロして、風景の一部へと溶け込ませてくれる異次元の空間となります。創り出されたスペースは、コンサートやヨガ、太極拳など、人々が寄り添うための場所として使われました。この作品が設置された場所にはかつて「パープルハウス」と呼ばれるシェルターがありましたが、解体後、地域の人々の手によって大切な場所が守られ、コミュニティの場として生まれ変わったという歴史があります。そんな大切な場所に、白い糸の層は場所の記憶を包み込み、訪れる人々に穏やかな対話と集いの時間を提供することができたことを、とても光栄に思っています。
